Summary:

Yadriel has summoned a ghost, and now he can’t get rid of him.

When his traditional Latinx family has problems accepting his gender, Yadriel becomes determined to prove himself a real brujo. With the help of his cousin and best friend Maritza, he performs the ritual himself, and then sets out to find the ghost of his murdered cousin and set it free.

However, the ghost he summons is actually Julian Diaz, the school’s resident bad boy, and Julian is not about to go quietly into death. He’s determined to find out what happened and tie up some loose ends before he leaves. Left with no choice, Yadriel agrees to help Julian, so that they can both get what they want. But the longer Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants to let him leave.

Archivist Comments:

I did a lot of research when trying to describe this book cover, and I think that the skeletal figure is Santa Meurte. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also on the same vein, I think that’s a marigold on the cover but I am terrible at identifying plants.

The person who submitted this book did so with a note that reads: “The book has an almost entirely (if not entirely) latino cast, which includes the MC and the character with ADHD!”

Now, apparently it isn’t really explicity stated in the book that the love interest has ADHD, however, a lot of readers interpreted his character as having it, and the author even openly confirmed it in a tweet, saying that that was the way he always intended to write it. I was sent proof of this.

“I wrote him specifically as having ADHD! Since no one took the time to test/understand him, he was automatically just labelled Bad News (like LOTS of POC boys)”
