Summary:

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza–but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys–an old flame from Asha’s past–reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict. With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

From bestselling author duo Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff comes the exciting finale in the trilogy that broke the mold and has been called “stylistically mesmerizing” and “out-of-this-world-awesome.”

Archivist Comments:

Honestly the biggest complaint I’ve seen about this series is that the plot seems to repeat across all three books. In this book specifically, some felt it was unecessary to introduce two new main characters when there was already a large availability of established characters from the other two books.

That being said, the series still seems to be fairly loved. I’ve seen a few comments saying that they felt that this was a nice way to end the series, and others saying that it is clear that there was a definitive plot to be followed from the beginning of the series.

As usual, Ella Malikova is a major side character/secondary character in this book who remains a beloved fixture of the series. There is some disappointment in the reviews that this book was not about her, as people had hoped it would be, but I’ve seen little in regards to negative commentary towards her.
